The Lip Bar

I've been wanting to jump on the Lip Bar bandwagon for a long time. Now I finally have.

The Lip Bar is an American based cosmetic company specialising in natural, vegan and bold cosmetics. Their lip products names were first based on cocktails (hence the lip bar) but I think the concept has evolved to flirty and iconic names for their various enticing colours (e.g. Boy Trouble, Man Eater etc.). The brands' philosophy revolves around challenging the beauty standard through inclusive imagery and pricing.

The Order Process

For my first order, I bought 3 lip products: a lipstick, a lip gloss and a matte liquid lipstick. My order took around 9 days to arrive which was a surprise because I thought it might take longer but I'm glad it didn't! Plus shipping was very low and I didn't get a customs charge (yeah!). My products came in a "lip bar" logo plastic bag with some logo tissue paper wrapped around them. There was no invoice but who needs a paper trail anyway (eco-friendly). I was so impressed with my order and the overall quality that I quickly made a second order with a mother load of products. Overall, I am so impressed.Words can't describe how much in love I am with this brand so let me show 'n tell it for you.

Liquid Lipsticks

Pictures Feature: Maneater, Playmate, Boy Trouble and Bawse Lady liquid lipsticks.
Maneater .Playmate .Boy Trouble. Bawse Lady - $11.90 each 6.5grams/23.oz

Maneater: A true griege nude. This is a very nice modern/alternative nude lip. Colour-wise it reminds me of Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Renegade, Lime Crime Cashmere, La Splash Ghoulish etc. Maneater is moisturising, matte and kiss proof. Can be worn without a liner (like in the swatch picture) or with your a brown lip liner to add definition and frame the lips.

Playmate: Neon pink. This is a statement pink that will work so well on deep dark skin and everything thing else. I love it! Matte but comfortable on the lips and beautifully bright.

Boy Trouble: Neon orange. When I say this is bright - I mean it. Even I haven't worn this out yet (because I've been giving my lips a liquid lipstick rest) but, when I do those boi's are in trouble. I think if you're after a really bold, bright orange - you can do no wrong with this shade.

Bawse Lady: Seriously this is one of the best reds in my collection. In fact its one of my favourite reds.  I can see this looking gorgeous on every skin tone - I love it! The formula is not runny or thick, the colour is pigmented and glides on with one moisturising coat that dries to a comfy matte finish. This liquid lipstick is kiss proof (back of the hand test) but, the inner part of your lips won't survive when it comes in contact with watery, greasy or oily foods. Yet it's very easy to rectify this by applying another layer - yes, you can even build up the intensity of this shade to deeper depths (or just fix/touch it up). I think its seriously amazing!

Ingredients: Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Prunus Dulcus (Sweet Almond) Oil, Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Glycerin, Castor Seed Oil, Vanilla Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, [+/] Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI19140), Red #7 Lake (CI45410, CI15850), Red #40 Lake CI 16035,D&C Red #6 (CI15850), Blue #1 Lake (CI42090), Yellow #6 Lake (CI15985).

Lipsticks
Lip Bar lipstick cases are meant to represent bird cages. Super unique and pretty.
Amaretto Sour. Chocolate Spritzer. Wine Sour. Purple Rain. Merlot. - $10.90 each, 3.5g/0.12oz.

Amaretto Sour: A camel yellow. Not the most pigmented lipstick but I think that makes it everyday wearable. Hear me out - this shade on dark skin comes across as a light nude. I think its quirky and a great bridge into unconventional lipstick shades for the yellow shy - plus its really moisturising.

Chocolate Spritzer: A creamy brown nude. A great moisturising nude lipstick for dark skin. Yet, its the type of shade that will work well on all skin tones because of its muted pink undertones. Very similar to Milani's Teddy Bear and Mac's Touch lipstick.

Wine Sour: A burnt orange based red. This shade is so very vibrant and reminds me of autumn. Wine Sour is pigmented and great alternative to blue/yellow/brown based reds. This shade was made for life.

Purple Rain: A vibrant creamy purple. This shade is super pigmented and super creamy - so much that in it broke on me :(. Nevertheless, Purple Rain is a beautiful and moisturising. It's an amazing colour that will look great on all skin tones.

Merlot: A reddish plum black grape shade - think 1920s. Merlot can be built up to be a rich deep dark purple (like in my hand swatch). Merlot will work on a multitude of skin tones and depending on how much you apply you can apply around with the shade.

Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) oil, Caprylic/Capric triglyceride ( derivate of coconut oil), Magnesium Myristate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Kaolin Clay, Stearyl Palmitate, Carnauba Wax, Ozokerite, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Microcrystalline wax, Vanillin,  Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, [+/-] Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI19140), Red #7 Lake (CI45410, CI15850), Red #40 Lake CI 16035,D&C Red #6 (CI15850), Blue #1 Lake (CI42090), Yellow #6 Lake (CI15985).

Lip gloss
Lip bar lip glosses mimic the packaging of the lipsticks. The plastic is thick and sturdy and the doe foot applicator is long, sturdy.
Candy Land and Dragon Fruit - $11.90 each, 6.5grams/0.23oz.

Candy Land: A bright neon pink. This lip gloss is off the chain. Its super thick and super bright. Not for the faint of heart - if you're brave enough this shade is going to bring your lip gloss game to higher planes. Sure you can tone it down and all (if you want to) but, if your look for a "kapow" statement lip - here, here it is.

Dragon Fruit: An orange-based red. Super bright, super thick and pigmented. Its gorgeous. Again just like Candy Land wallflowers watch out because Dragon Fruit it going all out to be loud and proud.

Ingredients: Dipentaerthrityl Hexadroxystearate, Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Micricristalline) Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxysterate/Tetraisosterate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trimethylolpropane Triisosterate, Commiphora Myrrha Extract, Tocopherol, Tocopherol Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Synthetic Japan Wax, Dicalcium Phosphate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Flurophlogopite, Calcium Aluminium Borosilicate, Polyethelene Terephthalte, Acrylates Coploymer, Silica, Tin Oxide, Flavour (Aroma). May Contain (+/-): Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77491), Iron Oxides 9CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Maganese Violet 9CI 77742), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 21 (CI 45410), Red 33 (CI 17200), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090).

Conclusion:
5 Reasons to Love the Lip Bar

No.1. They seek to challenge beauty standards
Let's face it. The beauty standards of society ... western society and even the world are skewed. The lip bar seeks to change beauty perceptions with one lip product at a time. I don't know about you but I'm all for supporting that. Viva la Revolution!

No.2. They reduced the price of their lip products
I love the fact that they reduced the price of their lip products (used to be $20.00) to around the $11-12.00 mark to make them affordable for everyone.

No.3 They've overcome adversity
Adversity

No.4 Their products are vegan and have good ingredients
There are so many questionable ingredients in the majority of makeup products but, you won't need to worry too much about the lip bar.

No.5 Their products are awesome
Absolutely awesome. Sure I like some shades more than others and the creaminess of some of the shades may be a bit too creamy in hot weather or with my rough application but, the colours are so vibrant and the quality is superb.

Any criticisms? Don't get me wrong nothing is perfect (their website could do with an update and they could certainly re-stock items quicker) but, they're certainly a brand that I happily recommend.

Note * I am in no way shape or form sponsored or affiliated with the Lip Bar. I just really like their products :)
