Our lips are not only biologically important in that they protect the beautiful line of teeths, they are also aesthetically important, when you're conversing with someone, and of course, when you're in photos. Especially since you can't really avoid posing in photos when overseas.
I remember a period of time when all photos of me show a deep black line in the middle of my lower lip. It was so ugly! I did not take care and drink lots of water, so I ended up having cracked lips that bled, and when the blood dried, the crack appeared as an awfully obvious black line that can be seen from far. The worst part came because I had to take picture for some official photograph. =(((
When I was in Beijing, the moment I step outdoors, I could feel the piercing cold or worst still the winds on my lips. If you don't apply that coat of oil, it just feels very uncomfortable to walk forward. It's kind of instinct to whip out the lipbalm, and what a sight it was when the whole group of us start to reach for our bags at the same time. LOL.
By the way, I am still using that Mentholatum Lip Pure Lipbalm that I blogged about, and it is still my No. 1 choice given the convenience of getting rather than Burt's Bees.
My 2nd winter tip for the day, would be to bring a brand new stick or at least pretty full stick. Cos I applied so much more during that 2 weeks that months in Singapore, that I would have grinded down Mentholatum if I had not bought the Maybelline Lip Smooth halfway through the trip. It is convenient to get a new stick, but you may not be able to get your HG lipbalm in a foreign country.
Maybelline Lip Smooth Botanicals
Available: BHG, Sasa, some Guardian (I got mine in Beijing)
Volume: 1.9g
Star Properties: Coconut oil to moisturize, Vitamin E for anti-oxidation, Almond oil to lighten fine lines, whole rice kernal as a natural coagulant. For all skin types, including sensitive skin. No chemical ingredients, no preservatives, no fragrance. (Hope my translation is right.)
Packaging
Apple Green is one of my favourite colours, and I couldn't resist looking at it and touching it the moment the bright green caught my eye.I also like the way the stick is rather thin so I can slot in anywhere I want, with white leaf prints. I like leaf & flower prints a lot.
Ingredients
My main concern when buying lipbalms is definitely the ingredients. I would not buy it unless I know what I will be eating is edible, since studies have already shown that women eat up a lot of whatever is on their lips in a lifetime. And when I saw "naturals", I started to scrutinise the printed words. To my delight, all the ingredients in this line of Maybelline lipbalms are edible. So I bought one, the peppermint-flavoured one to make sure that it is moisturising and works first.
Flavour
How I love the way these lipbalms come in so many flavours. I chose peppermint, because it is the exactly the same as the Wrigley's Chewing Gum that I can't have enough of whenever I am not in Singapore.Price
After conversion, it costs me $5.50, which is a lot cheaper than the $7.90 I paid for Mentholatum. All the more I couldn't resist buying.Moisturizing
It is very moisturizing, and did not disappoint.Lasting
It is pretty lasting. But I could tell that it cannot last as long as Mentholatum does. Which is the ultimate reason why I still think I would buy Mentholatum again, over Maybelline. However, I still bought all the other flavours, since it is cheap, and it works. The only drawback would be that I probably have to reapply more, and therefore use it up slightly faster than Mentholatum.
I love it: 4.9 hearts.
Not as lasting as I would like it to be.Very worth it if you looking for a refreshing flavour-burst and convenience (rather than ordering from MyLipStuff). Plus point is that you don't have to worry about the health risk that comes with many lip products!
So glad that there are more and more 100% edible ingredients lipbalm on the mass market, which are a lot more affordable than traditional organic ones. =)
