Beyonce calls daughter Blue Ivy a 'cultural icon' amid trademark battle with wedding planning company of same name - Fox Business

Posted: 06 Oct 2019 12:00 AM PDT

Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z have been involved in an ongoing trademark battle with a wedding planner over the use of the name "Blue Ivy," which happens to be the name of the artists' daughter and a wedding and event planning company.

Veronica Morales, who uses the name Blue Ivy Events for her company, is now disputing the power couple's assertion that Blue Ivy Carter is "a cultural icon" and that the name should be trademarked accordingly, according to new court documents obtained by The Blast.

Back in 2012, the same year Blue Ivy Carter was born, Morales filed a trademark for the phrase for her event planning company, whose Facebook page states first opened back in 2009.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé is attempting to trademark her daughter's full name, Blue Ivy Carter, and not "Blue Ivy," claiming that Morales' company is just a "small business, with just three regional offices and a handful of employees" while her 7-year-old daughter is a "cultural icon."

"[Morales' claim] that consumers are likely to be confused between a boutique wedding event planning business and Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of two of the most famous performers in the world, is frivolous and should be refused in its entirety," Beyoncé said according to court documents.

Morales, who's company has offices in Boston, South Florida and Los Angeles, shot down the celebrity's claims that their daughter was a cultural icon while accusing Beyoncé of trying to 'skirt the law.'

"Beyoncé's company is trying to skirt the law, and recently argued that the 7-year-old Blue Ivy Carter is a 'cultural icon' in the United States. According to Wikipedia, a cultural icon 'is an artifact that is identified by members of a culture as representative of that culture,' such as apple pie, baseball, and the United States Flag."

Beyoncé and Jay-Z were denied the "Blue Ivy Carter" trademark back in October 2012, with the intention of using the name for a variety of products. The judge sided with Morales back then, and the case has continued on ever since.

The Carter's refiled the trademark paperwork in 2016 and Morales served them with a deposition a year later. Morales allegedly offered to sell both the wedding and event planning business as well as the "Blue Ivy" trademark to the power couple for $10 million, however the Carter's declined the offer.

Husband and wife diagnosed with breast cancer weeks apart - FirstCoastNews.com WTLV-WJXX

Posted: 24 Oct 2019 02:21 AM PDT

It's rare, but men can get breast cancer.

Recently the father of Beyonce, Mathew Knowles, came forward saying he had breast cancer but because of the stigma associated with men having the disease, few come forward and get tested.

Less than 1-percent of all breast cancers occur in men. What's also rare is a husband and wife being diagnosed with the disease weeks apart, but that became reality for one Jacksonville couple.

Married for more than four decades, Jeanne and Michael Haddad have smiled and stayed close through some extremely difficult times. Including the results of Jeanne's annual mammogram this year.

"I got a letter for a callback," Jeanne said. "Which I had received before. I had to get an ultrasound, a few more things then a biopsy. When I got the biopsy that's when I found out I had cancer."

"She said that she was afraid but she was going to pray about it a lot," Michael recalls his wife's fight for her life. "We just did it one step at a time. I told her don't worry, I'll be with you every step of the way. When you go to the doctor, when you have your surgery, whatever I'll be there for you."

Jeanne's stage one cancer was caught early. Doctors were able to remove the tumor found in her breast. She survived following radiation therapy and with the love and support of her husband.

"It is shocking to hear those words," Jeanne said.

The words 'you have cancer' were heard not once but twice among the couple just weeks apart.

"I had been exercising and when I got out of the shower I saw a little pea-shaped lump near my nipple," Michael said. "I didn't think anything of it."

The average age of men diagnosed with breast cancer is 68. A family history of breast cancer adds to the risk factor for men.

"When she went through the ordeal she went through with breast cancer I started thinking...well I have several relatives that have passed away or have been treated for breast cancer," Michael said. "I mentioned it to her and our daughter and they said you need to go get it checked out"

Michael got a mammogram at Memorial Hospital, then a biopsy and it came out positive for cancer.

"I wasn't expecting to go and find out that he was positive," his wife said while shaking her head. "We went to the appointment and he says it's cancer. I couldn't believe it!"

Like Jeanne, Michael had stage one breast cancer and early detection was the key to keeping him alive. Michael underwent a mastectomy and the pair now have a survival story to share.

"It's pretty important to check out your breast at least once a month to make sure there are no lumps," Michael said. "Think about your loved ones too and what they would have to go through if something happened to you."

There are several factors that can increase a man's risk of getting breast cancer including age, a family history of breast cancer, radiation exposure or high estrogen levels. Men can have high levels due to things like being overweight or drinking heavily.

Beyoncé and husband Jay Z have been locked in a dispute to try and trademark their young daughter's name.

For years now, Beyoncé and Jay Z have been involved in a legal battle with a Boston-based wedding and event planning company named 'Blue Ivy' as they try and trademark the same name for their daughter.

The company's owner Veronica Morales has disputed the power couple's request to trademark the name and in recently revealed court documents Bey and Jay's plea to officials in order persuade them to free up the Blue Ivy trademark was outlined.

In documents reportedly optained by The Blast, Beyoncé claims that her daughter Blue Ivy has 'achieved a significant amount of fame' and has 'a noted and well-docuemtned interest in fashion'.

According to the reports, Beyoncé and her team said, "Indeed, the circumstantial evidence, including Blue Ivy Carter's fame, her interest in fashion and design, and her familial relationship with two of the most famous performers in the world all support BGK's intent to use the BLUE IVY CATER trademark in connection with building a brand consistent with Blue Ivy Carter's interests and skills."

It goes on to say, "Blue Ivy Carter is a cultural icon who has been described as a 'mini style star' and has been celebrated for her 'fashion moments' overs the years. Her life and activities are followed extensively by the media and the public."

Explaining Blu Ivy's cultural impact, the statement continues, "Most significantly, Blue Ivy Carter has achieved a significant amount of fame, particularly at such a young age. She also has a noted and well-chronicled interest in fashion."

"Given these factors, Blue Ivy Carter is capable of and interested in becoming the face of a brand. For this reason, the factual context demonstrates that BGK filed the Application with the intent to build a brand around Blue Ivy Carter and her public reputation and renown."

The case is ongoing and it remains to be seen whether or not Beyoncé and Jay Z will be handed the rights to the Blue Ivy trademark.

Superfan who tested her boyfriend with an exam on Beyoncé gets married in Bey-themed ceremony - The Sun

Posted: 13 Oct 2019 12:00 AM PDT

A BEYONCÉ superfan who once gave her boyfriend a quiz on the superstar has got married in a queen Bey-themed wedding.

Allie, 25, from Chicago, tied the knot with fiancé Ty, 27, in a church ceremony in Nashville – filled with Beyoncé references.

Allie describes herself as a superfan 'Stan', and danced the night away to songs by the mum-of-three, and even walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of Halo.

She told Fabulous Digital: "Our wedding day was about us as a couple but I definitely threw in a lot of Bey influences.

"We tried really hard to incorporate our personality into the day."

She took inspiration from all aspects of Beyoncé's life, saying: "I took some inspiration from Beyoncé's concerts and had video interludes throughout the night.

"My husband, family, and wedding party walked down to Halo and I walked down to his cousin singing Ave Maria.

"My mom made candles for all the guests with beehives on them (for Beyhive)."

But it wasn't just the music which had a Beyoncé theme, with Allie adding even their cake paid homage to Mrs Carter.

She said: "Our cake topper was a giant B (for our last name but I told my husband that it really stands for Beyoncé and he always rolls his eyes at that).

"And lots of Bey music throughout the night.

"The DJ knew his audience so we played songs like Party, Formation, Love on Top, Say My Name.

"My bridal party also had their introductions to Crazy in Love."

Allie, a sales engineer, went viral a few years ago after she gave her now-husband an exam on Beyoncé, questioning their compatibility.

Allie jokingly claimed he needed to score at least 60 per cent to avoid getting dumped, but he passed with 80 per cent, after answering questions on Beyoncé's real name and her songs.

Sharing the test paper online, she said: "I gave my boyfriend a Beyoncé exam to make sure we can stay together. He passed."

And she stuck by giving Ty, a business consultant, the quiz, saying: "Final update to this crazy story, the Beyoncé exam worked and we are happily married.

"Give your loved ones a Bey exam for prosperity and happiness."

Sharing snaps of their big day on Twitter, she said: "Getting married was fun but dancing to a million Beyoncé songs at the reception was even more fun."

The pair tied the knot on their seventh anniversary earlier this month, with Allie saying: "7 years ago on October 5th, my boyfriend asked me out and then proceeded to say he was going to marry me one day.

"I laughed in his face and told him he was actually insane. In a few days we're getting married."

And these best mates staged a fake wedding complete with bride and groom outfits.

Plus this bride's unusual engagement ring has been compared to a 'squirt of mayonnaise'.

Meanwhile, this couple were mocked for sending out a save-the-date showing the groom-to-be looking up his fiance's skirt.

The gorgeous singer is wearing a long-sleeved sparkly red dress and dangling earrings in the snapshots as she shows off long curly hair, and her rapper love, who is standing beside her, is wearing a black blazer over a white T-shirt and black pants. She is making a fish face in both pics and in one, she is even playfully crossing her eyes as Jay smiles and looks to the side while they hold onto each other. There was no caption for the post, but with the mega response it received, there really wasn't one needed! Check out the pics of Bey and Jay HERE!

"Y'all look good," one comment read while others left several heart-eyed and heart emojis. Others commented on the couple's humor. "You all are so silly!" one fan wrote while others posted laughing emojis.

When Beyonce and Jay-Z aren't posing for eye-catching pics together, they're sometimes caught in candids while out on vacations and playing with their three children, Blue Ivy, 7, and twins Rumi and Sir, 2. In Aug., the adorable family was seen having a great time at a beach in the Hamptons during a getaway. The doting parents were helping their tots keep cool from the sun with umbrellas and they looked like they were having the time of their lives as they held the precious bundles of joy close.

Whether Bey and Jay are making a public appearance for their highly successful careers, or taking the time to share memorable moments with their kids, they always know how to impress!
